('African Potash' or 'the Company')
Appointment of Non-Executive Director
African Potash, the AIM listed company focussed on sub-Saharan potash assets, is pleased to announce that is has appointed Dr. Simon Dorling as Non-Executive Director with immediate effect. The appointment of Dr. Dorling, an exploration and structural geologist who most recently advised ASX listed Elemental Minerals Limited ('Elemental') on its Sintoukola Potash Project, provides the Board with substantial operational expertise as it continues to advance its exploration activities at its highly prospective Lake Dinga Project in the Republic of Congo ('Lake Dinga').
Dr. Dorling, is an Exploration and Structural Geologist with over 19 years of industry experience and is a Principal Consultant with CSA Global Pty Ltd ('CSA'). For the past ten years Dr. Dorling has provided specialist technical support and project management to a variety of clients internationally in base metals, precious and energy metals and industrial minerals. Dr Dorling and CSA were the leading technical consultants more recently for ASX listed Elemental Minerals Limited ('Elemental').
Elemental's primary asset is the 93% owned Sintoukola Potash Project ('Sintoukola'), which is contiguous to Lake Dinga. Sintoukola has been reported as having a Measured and Indicated sylvinite Resource of 573Mt grading 20.92% K20 (33.14% potassium chloride ('KCl')), and a Proven and Probable Reserve of 151.7Mt grading 20.02% K20 (31.69% KCl) with a 23 year life of mine (as per its pre-feasibility study). Elemental is also currently subject to an approximate A$190m bid from the Dingyi Group Investment Limited.
Significantly Dr. Dorling has been the Competent Person for Elemental Minerals throughout and has helped develop Sintoukola from a conceptual target to bankable feasibility study stage.
African Potash recently signed a data sharing agreement with Elemental, enabling African Potash to utilise the data generated to help focus future exploration activities and generate drill targets at Lake Dinga (see announcement 3 July 2013). Dr. Dorling's appointment to the Company is consequently of great note, and should prove invaluable as African Potash plans its exploration programme, which it anticipates will commence later in 2013.
Dr. Dorling graduated from the Friederich-Wilhelm University in Bonn, Germany, with an MSc in Geology and a PhD in Economic Geology from the University of Western Australia. He is a specialist on sediment hosted copper and precious metal deposits and has made several academic presentations on this type of deposit. Dr. Dorling has proven experience of operating in Africa, and in particular the Democratic Republic of Congo, having spent the past six years working with resource, mainly copper/cobalt projects. He is a Qualified Person, and has been involved in compiling National Instrument 43-101 and JORC ore resource reports and is also a member of the Australian Institute of Geoscientists (MAIG).
African Potash CEO Edward Marlow said: "I am delighted to welcome Simon to the Board at such an exciting time for the Company as we prepare to commence exploration on our highly prospective Lake Dinga Potash Project later this year. With Simon's extensive knowledge and understanding of the Lake Dinga region, I am confident that his experience with Sintoukola will prove invaluable as we begin to generate drill targets to advance Lake Dinga up the value development curve. I look forward to updating shareholders with our progress in due course."
Dr. Dorling, aged 50, is also currently a director of Regal Resources Limited and FFF Pty Ltd. He has not held any other directorships and /or partnerships in the last 5 years:
